U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) enlisted the help of Survivor Corps and other community advocacy groups to build momentum for their bill (S. 412) to create an independent commission to investigate the U.S. response to the pandemic, and make recommendations for preparing for future ones.

The Senators published a joint June 14, 2021 New York Times Op-Ed calling on Congress to support the creation of an independent, 9/11 style commission to assess the U.S. pandemic response and ensure the country is better prepared to confront future public health and economic crises.

The senators have introduced the National Coronavirus Commission Act, the only bipartisan, bicameral legislation of its kind.

Survivor Corps is also calling on Congress to create a National COVID Registry.

The COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force (OMH: Office of Minority Health)
was established by Executive Order on January 21, 2021, as part of the government-wide effort to identify and eliminate health and social disparities that result in disproportionately higher rates of exposure, illness, hospitalization and death related to COVID-19.

The HETF's mission is to provide specific recommendations to the President of the United States for mitigating inequities caused or exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and for preventing such inequities in the future.
